Fully Involved

This blog is brought to you by a jazz musician, that’s me. For the record, I am also a retired firefighter.

This blog is for you, the music lover, jazz fan, musician, student, earth dweller, whomever you are that came upon this jazz oriented place.  I plan to share my experiences here, my journey, it’s challenges, some tips, rants, likes and dislikes, on a weekly basis.  I hope to inform and inspire my readers, as well as to promote this awesome music called jazz.  I’ll not only promote my own music, but also the wealth of fantastic music going on in Portland, Oregon.

Readers can expect to get an inside look at jazz music, learning to play jazz, and jazz appreciation. As this thread unfolds, you will learn of my inspirations and my mentors. I have met literally hundreds of people through jazz and I will introduce you to some of them through stories, interviews and pics.

I have found there is a bond among jazz people that is comparable to that as a firefighter, a career I worked for nearly 30 years that overlaps my musical journey. The likeness, I suppose, may be in the risk taking. For firefighters, risk is part of the job. They know it and they function as a team because their lives depend on it. The jazz musician takes risks by putting themselves out there, stretching, going full force with their music.

Welcome. And stay tuned.
